After we were forced to postpone the Scramble the
week before, it was nice to see the sun shining on March
2nd. We could have done without the wind, though.
Palo Alto usually plays long but the wind that blew for
most of the first half of the day made it even longer.
Some of the par 4's on the front might as well have been
par 5's! Well, for some of us that is!
The winning team of Larry Lind, Joe Buenavista,
Bernard Santamaria and James Ryan were apparently
playing another course. After parring the first three
holes they birdied 5 of the next 6 including holes 4, 5, &
6 which could have been the toughest on the course.
If Joe wasn't chipping in, Larry was holing every putt he looked at including a few
long range bombs. How ya gonna' beat that? They managed only 2 birdies on the
back but this one was over on the front nine. Their 65, net 63, was 5 strokes ahead of
the next team.
In second place was the team of Frank Ruccolo, Ken Rachko and their friend R. J.
Suokko. They played a consistent round making 2 birdies and 1 bogey. With their 3
stroke handicap, they finished with a 68. A birdie at 18 was a nice capper.
The third place team of Bruce and Brian Bartfeld, Rich
Perata and Kevin Kelly shot 2 under 34 on the front but the
birdies were hard to come by on the back and they finished
with 70, net 69).
