Former Westdivot club members, Eddie Santamaria and Leonard Buenavista,
teamed up to shoot a 56 at Tilden Park bringing back old memories.  Yes,
memories of why we ran them out of the club..........nah, just kidding.  Good guys,
good members and it was good to see them.   Both players shot right at their
handicaps and combined nicely for their team score including a net finish of 2-2-3
on the difficult finishing holes.  Not being current club members meant the 20 first
place points were up for grabs and three teams laid claim to those.

Dan Haynosch and Jerry Crank were one of those teams as both shot 92.  That's a
little high for Dan and a nice round for Jerry.  The key to their round was the start
they put together on the back nine.  Now get this........after the first five holes of the
back nine, they were 8 under par.  Yes, I said 8!  Starting at 10 they reeled off
birdie, eagle, eagle, eagle, birdie.  That's a lot of wildlife!!   The next team at 59 was
Thierry Dubois and Bill Beyer.  Their's was a more pedestrian 59 with an eagle on
each side .  Thierry's 85 was one of the better rounds of the day even if it included a
triple bogey 7 on each side.  The final 59 was shot by Steve Clark and Victor
Tablante.  Both players shot their handicaps and once again it was a 27 on the
back that got this team to the top which also included three back nine eagles.
Theirs were not flying in formation like Dan and Jerry's but they got it done on
holes 12, 13 and 16.  There were three teams at 60 as the scores were very close.
Mike Wong had the best round of the day with an 80 and what made it real special
was he was the only member of this tournament to score a par on the first hole!

One of the best round of the day was shot by former Cal Bear Ben Santamaria with an 82.
Ben was obviously channeling some good vibes from his days at Cal as he shot a
consistent 41-41.  I guess it's obvious that, while Ben did graduate, he spent more time at
Tilden Park than he did in class!!  In fact, I think they are still waiting for your Psych paper.
