Tournament Recap
Aptos Seascape Golf Course

Was Rich Just "Tee"sing?
The story of Seascape could be written many ways.  It could be the continued fine play
of Joe Buenavista and Larry Lind as they won another tournament.  It could be the play of new
members Calvin Jenn and Max Kofman who tied Larry and Joe only to lose the tiebreaker.
Maybe the nice round by Bruce Bartfeld with a 79 was the story?

All of those are worthy lead-ins to the story of the day but I'd like to focus on an
incident that occurred prior to the tournament.  I was sitting in the restaurant overlooking the
course.  Our first group had just headed to the first tee.  All of a sudden Rich Perata came in
with a concerned look on his face.  He sat down at my table and asked if we were really playing
from the black tees.  I said yes Rich, the gold tees are only 5800 yards long.  He told me the
yardage is not always what's important and had I looked at the scorecard.  I informed him that I
knew this course well and besides, the black tees are only another 221 yards longer.  That's
only an average of 12 yards per hole!!  I gave him a couple of examples such as the 11th hole
measuring 354 from the gold tees and a whopping 361 from the blacks.  Was that hole going to
pose a problem?  Rich finally admitted that it was all in his head and I told him that's not
something I can straighten out.  So Rich went out and got ready to tee off.  At the end of the
day when the all numbers were totalled, Rich shot an 88 for a net 65 which just happened to be
the low net score for the day!!!

Maybe I actually did something for that head of his after all?
