Another Competitive Scramble Opens the 2011 Season
|
With the weather men reporting chances of snow leading up to the Scramble, I guess
we should feel lucky we got to play at all. Actually it was a pleasant but cold day with
no rain, sleet or snow to be found. For some reason our scrambles are usually
competitive and this one was no exception. Maybe the key is to take two to three
months off between rounds?
Two teams tied for first with 6 under par 66's but the tie breaker went to the team of
Jim Suekama, Gary Sakamoto, Terry Greiner and Larry Lind. They made only one
bogey on the day and finished strong on Jim's great tee shot on the Jackpot hole
which stopped 2'-07" from the hole. The second place team of Thierry Dubois, Bill
Beyer and Brian and Marty Miguel used a 6 birdie, no bogey round to get to 66
including a strong birdie, birdie, birdie finish on the final three holes. Marty's tee shot
on 17 to 4'-07" tied the Jackpot Hole and the pot will carry over to Franklin Canyon.
The 3rd and 4th place teams finished only two shots back with 4 under par 68's. It's
always interesting to see which holes were played the best in these events and you
can see below an unusal stat. More teams birdied the difficult par-3 17th than did the
relatively easy par-5 18th.
