| Unlikely Pair Wins Tiebreaker |
If three teams tied for first place and two of them were Bruce Bartfeld and Rich Perata along with Frank
Ruccolo and Ken Rachko, it would be a good bet that the one of them was the winning team. That's why it doesn't
pay to gamble! The winners were the third tieing team, Steve Miller and Jack Hiler. Both players fairly consistent,
picking each other up as the round went along. Steve's birdie 2 at the difficult par-3 fourth hole carded them a net 0.
Jack returned the favor with a net eagle of his own at the par-4 seventh. Jack also added net eagles at the 12th and
14th to bring home their team 60.
Bruce and Rich used the usual formula for their 60. Bruce shot 78 using only 26 putts while Rich, not his usual
consistent self, still picked up the slack where needed. Bruce's 26 putts included a 12 putt front nine that actually
included a 3-putt at the 6th hole! Frank and Ken are starting to heat up as Frank shot an 83 which included a birdie 3
at the difficult par-4 16th hole. Ken shot right to his handicap with a net 72 and contributed on a number of holes.
The next team was the twosome of Taka Kitagawa and Sid Grant who shot a 63.
Most teams struggled on the back nine as the wind was absolutely howling. A combination of the wind and the
difficult greens made Santa Clara play a little more difficult than usual as almost a third of the field totaled over 40
putts for their rounds. The overall scores were high as well as only 6 scores below 90 were recorded. It's worth
mentioning those players as this was a very tough day to play. Besides Bruce and Frank, mentioned above, Taka
Kitagawa shot an 85, Thierry Dubois an 86, Ben Santamaria an 88 and Tony Abdilla rounded out the group with an 89.
Another interesting tidbit, Brian Lee hit the green at the par-3 13th with a nice shot of 13'-07" and proceeded to
put his name on the "closest to" board. Unfortunately it wasn't our board. Brian, we hope the On Net USA golf club
was good to you and rewarded you handsomely!
