Skins Game wraps up the 2007 season.
|
It was the last tournament of the season. Last chance to make a run at a trophy and it was also
the Skins Game. A chance to win a little money for that Holiday Cheer. Let's take a look at who
finished the season strong and then we'll see who grabbed the cash.
The low team of the day was Chris and Marty Miguel with a team 55. Now, I'd like to say we
ham and egged it, but this "blue-plate special" was all Chris. I was the wilted parsley you
immediately pushed off the plate. Chris shot an 88 (first time below 90) for a net 60 and rattled
off 4 pars in a row for a 42 on the front. Two teams tied for second with 57's. Peter Vorametsanti
and Brian Lee were led by Peter's 91 (net 65). Brian shot 88 as both players made quite a few pars
to combine for their team score. The other 57 was from the team of Tony Samuolis and Phil
Abrams. Phil had a nice par stretch of his own on the front to get the team rolling but the shot of
the day was Tony's tee shot on the difficult par-3 third which he stuck to 2 feet from the hole. In
fact it almost landed in the cup on the fly! Three teams tied for third with a team score of 58. Do
you get the idea that a lot of people played fairly well at Poplar?

You can check out the trophy winners on the
Standings page, so now let's see who made some
money!!
As most of you know, our Skins Game consists
of 6 skins, each consisting of three holes. We do
this to avoid tieing every hole. On Skin #1 (holes
1-3), two teams tied with combined net scores of
22. The prize of $34 in Poplar gift certificates
carried over to Skin #2 which was now worth $64
in Poplar money and $20 in cash. Skin #2 was
tied as 3 teams totaled 20 for holes 4-6. Skin #3,
with carry overs was now worth $94 in Poplar
money and $50 in cash. Will get a winner at Skin
#3? Enter the aforementioned Chris
Miguel who played holes 7-9 in net 3 under par. I actually helped a
little here for our total of 21.
On to Skin #4. Holes 10-12 produced one of, if not the, lowest
winning Skin total ever as Sid Grant and Taka Kitagawa scored a 16
over that stretch. How you might ask? You start with Sid's 3 hole
net total of 7. Yes I said 7 as he shot net scores of 3-4-0. Sid and
Taka collected $40 in Poplar money and $40 in cash. Skin #5
proved it was taking net eagles to win on this day as Brian Miguel
shot net eagle, birdie, par on holes 13-15. Partner Jon Lazzareschi,
added net bogey, birdie, par for their winning number of 21.
On to Skin #6 and a prize of $100 in cold, hard cash. Two teams were in the clubhouse tied
with scores of 22. Playing near the end of the group was the team of Steve Clark and Bob
Martinez. They came within 2 strokes of Skins # 2 & #5. They were ready for a final push
toward that "C" note. Steve's net scores of par, par, par were very good. Bob's net of birdie,
birdie, par was even better. The total was 20 and Steve and Bob said they'd take 20's........or
tens.........or fives!!! It didn't matter as long as it added up to $100!!!
Congratulations to all the Skins winners and to everyone for another great Season!!!
