| Another Rainy Skins Game @ Poplar |
For the second year in a row, the Skins Game was played in a drizzle at Poplar Creek.
That didn't stop Frank Ruccolo, who started birdie, birdie. Is it any wonder he shot 76? A birdie at the
short par-5 first is always good, but a birdie at the 2nd is very impressive! Combined with partner Ken
Rachko's 96, their team score was 53. Runaway winner, right? Wrong. Jim Suekama and Gary
Sakamoto also shot a 53. Gary's 94 was by far his best round this year and if not for three 8's, could
have been even better. Jim added an 86. In third place were the teams of Terry Greiner and Jack Hiler
and Joe Buenavista and Larry Lind. Jack's 85 topped off a nice year with steady improvement. Joe's
81 included a 9 on the par-4 ninth.
In the Skins Game the big winners were Brian Miguel and Alex Barna with a combined
$175 in prize money. Alex's par at the difficult par-3 twelveth was the key hole for Skin #4 while
Brian's birdie 2, net 1 at the par-3 seventeenth helped them capture the $100 for SKin #6. Terry
Greiner and Jack Hiler also won two skins for a combined $129 in cash and proshop gift certificates.
Jack carried Skin#1 with net scores of 3-3-3 while Terry handled Skin #5 with nets of 2-4-2. Our other
winning team was Steve Clark and Bob Martinez who won Skins 2 & 3 as #2 carried over. Steve
parred 7 and birdied 8, while Bob's par at the par-5 ninth finished off their winning skin.
