The "Poppies" always play tough!!
|
It's always fun to play at one of the "Poppies". Whether it be the serene setting on
the Monterey Peninsula at "Hills" or the pastures of "Ridge", the NCGA courses are
always fun, even when they kick your ........... behind!
Ten teams tackled Poppy Ridge in October and the scores were pretty competitive,
ranging from 60-70. Jim Suekama and Gary Sakamoto came in with the 60 as Jim
shot one of only three scores in the 80's with his 88. Gary played to his handicap
with a net 72 and picked up Jim when it counted. Perennial front-runners, Angelo
Matheou and Jim Gustafson were next with a 61. Jim's 94 (net 68) was a nice round
on this difficult course. Also coming in at 61 were Taka Kitagawa and Sid Grant.
Both players played their usual games although I'm sure Taka was not too happy
with his net 74.
Bob Drakes and Victor Tablante shot 62 as Bob had one of the rounds in the 80's as
he matched Jim's 88. The lowest round of the day was shot by Zac Briesach as he
shot a very nice 86.
