| Beyer & Miguel Outlast Mare Island |
At last years Skins Game, Bill Beyer and Brian Miguel teamed up to win $45.00.
They teamed up again at Mare Island and took the team prize. Maybe there's a new
team emerging here? Both shot net 75 at Mare Island so this was a real team effort.
Their team 63, while not one of the lowest winning team scores, was definitely one of
outlasting the course. Mare Island is not a long course but a combination of wind
and elevation changes makes it a challenge. These two even made 2 team bogies
on the back nine but it was a key net par by Bill on the difficult uphill 18th that held
the lead.
Marty and Chris Miguel were second with 64 and a bogey at 18 kept them from tieing
for the lead. Both played reasonably well on the front nine but both struggled on the
back. Their 8 under 27 start had them in good shape but they limped home in 37 and
couldn't hang on. The third place team of Alex Barna and Al Dunn was another stroke
back at 65. Al's net 1 at 17 and net 3 at 18 was a furious finish but it just wasn't
enough. The course played tough making this an exciting finish.
The low round of the day was turned in by Tony Abdilla with an 87 but it was stroke
#39 of that round that was impressive. Tony was one of only 2 players to par the
difficult par 3, 8th and he was the only one to hit the green in regulation. Nice shot!!
