| Lefties Destroy Hiddenbrooke |
Normally, when you describe a round of golf by Frank Ruccolo and Ken Rachko by saying
they "destroyed" a course, it means they drove a cart into a lake or rifled a 3-wood through a
Pro Shop window or even uttered an obscenity during the videotaping of wedding vows at an
outdoor ceremony. Not this time. Frank and Ken shot an incredible team 56 at the difficult
Hiddenbrooke Golf Course. Frank's hot start with a 41 on the front nine. Ken carried the back
nine with a 47 that included a 9 at the par-5, 16th hole. Frank's 85 was one of the better rounds
of the day.
In second place was the team of Joe Buenavista and Larry Lind with a 58. Joe shot 97 which is
not a great score for a player of his caliber but looking closer you'll see that he started with a
45 on the front nine and was 8 over par for 8 of the holes on the back. It was that darn 16th
hole that got Joe as it did Ken above. I won't mention Joe's score for that par-5 but it was 7
over par. You do the math! Larry shot a 50-50=100 and was pretty consistent.
Some of the other good scores turned in were Bruce Bartfeld with 80, Dan Haynosch with 88,
Mike Wong with 90, Taka Kitagawa with 91 and Paul Willis and Tony Samuolis with 92. This
event was the first round of the Hans Marquardt Memorial Tournament with the second and
final round being played at Aptos Seascape on August 9th.
