| Takaki & Samuolis "Preserve" The Lead At Callippe |
Max Takaki and Tony Samuolis found the new track at Callippe Preserve to their
liking as they blew away the field in the September tournament by firing a 17-under
par round of 55. Max was the star here shooting a 95 for a net 61! If it wasn't for an
unfortunate 8-8 finish on the final two holes, Max would have shot in the net 50's on
his own ball. That would have been cause for an on-the-spot drug test. Tony was no
slouch shooting an 89 but also finished with an 8 on the final hole.
Tieing for second were the teams of Tom Lindell / Bob Martinez and Frank
Ruccolo / Ken Rachko with 61. You usually think coming in with a 61 has you near
or at the top but not on this day. Tom shot a very nice 82 using only 12 putts on the
front nine. Bob was a little off his game shooting 95 and struggled on the greens with
39 putts. Frank shot 84 also using only 12 putts on the front while Ken had a difficult
day and a couple of bad holes ballooned his score to a 101.
Bruce Bartfeld had the low round of the day with a 78 on nines of 39-39.
Other good scores included Jim Suekama's 85 and Dan Haynosch's 87. There were a
few 89's shot by Bob Drakes, Thierry Dubois and Duncan Benas. For the most part I
think a lot of us had trouble with the environmental areas which in my opinion were a
little too in play. But maybe that's just the result of a lack of course knowledge. We'll
see next time.
