It's Summer and the Competition Heats Up
There was only a 5 shot spread between 10 of the 11 teams in the field and a lot of
good individual scores on the South course at Alameda.  I guess everything heats up
in summer?

Leading the way with a 58 team score was the duo of Lew Celli and Ross Smiley.  Ross
shot 81, net 67 while Lew added 95, net 68.  Ross shot 39 on the front to get the team
off to a good start and Lew went net birdie, eagle, birdie during one stretch on the
back nine.  Also tieing for first but losing the prize tiebreaker was the team of Chuck
Smith and Steve Clark.  Chuck shot the low round of the day with a 75 with three
birdies and only 28 putts.  Steve (90) stumbled a bit on the back nine but his hot start
of 42 on the front enabled this team to shoot a 28 going out.

The team of Joe Buenavista and Larry Lind were one shot back at 59.  Despite an
opening hole 9, Joe played pretty well shooting an 89 overall.  Larry shot a 92 and
made 4 straight pars from holes 8-11, all for net birdies.  Another team at 59 was
Bruce Bartfeld and Duncan Benas.  Duncan shot 78 while Bruce added 79.  Both of
these rounds could have been much, much better.  Bruce triple bogeyed the short
par-3 16th and Duncan had 3, 3-putts!

Other rounds of note include Tom Sabbadini's 79, an 83 from Tony Samuolis and
Frank Ruccolo's 83.  Another round worth mentioning was Chris Miguel's 93 for a net
64.  Maybe even better than his score was the 29 putts he used, by far, his best effort!
